Alberta Shows School Choice Helps Poor Families
The Alberta Parents’ Union brought your voice to an international audience!
We've told you before that Alberta is a world leader in school choice.
By-election Exposes Education Act Absurdity
The Calgary Catholic School Division is holding a by-election to fill two trustee vacancies on January 31st.
One of the vacancies - in Wards 11/12 - was caused by the death of Cathie Williams in July 2024.
But, the earlier vacancy - in Wards 4/7 - dates back to December 14th, 2022 - more than two years ago.
How? Why?
Well, let us explain...
How is this possible?
Including parents in their children’s education is not only the right thing to do, it’s also common sense.
And, it is popular!
The Alberta government’s policies on gender identity policies in schools were introduced to the Legislature on October 31st as Bill 27.
In short, we got both a little more and a little less than we were promised when the ideas were first introduced in January.
The End Of An Error
Believe it or not, the Alberta Parents’ Union and the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) have found common ground in opposing the same policy.
Everywhere All At Once
You may have seen the analysis from the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) showing “the province’s education funding announcement suggests per-student funding is poised to drop even further in the national ranking, potentially landing in 10th place among all provinces.”
New Schools ASAP?
In case you missed it, the Province recently announced a new school construction initiative with an eye-popping price of $8.6 billion.
Spelling Out A Failure
Have you noticed the K-12 student in your life isn't being taught to spell?
That might not be an accident on the part of your school board.
The Watchdog That Didn't Bark
When the Province announced assessments for young students, so parents and decision-makers would have more information on how our kids are doing in reading and math, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) opposed it.
So, what is a seclusion room?
Children are being put in cages against their will, and against the will of their parents, by government employees.
