I wholeheartedly support the implementation of mandatory screenings in literacy and numeracy for students from Kindergarten through Grade 5. Early detection of learning challenges is crucial in ensuring every child receives the support they need to succeed. Let’s stand together to empower parents with the necessary information to advocate for our children’s education. Sign the petition to Stand Up To The ATA On Assessments and make a difference in our children’s future.

As a mother, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles my daughter has faced in her education journey, particularly in math, reading, and comprehension. Her difficulties in grasping basic concepts and sight words have not only impacted her academic performance but have also taken a toll on her mental well-being. The frustration and anxiety she experiences due to feeling behind and misunderstood by her teachers have led to a lack of motivation and increased resistance towards attending school. This constant battle to ensure she receives the necessary support has caused stress and tension within our household, affecting not only her but our entire family dynamic.

Navigating through the educational system and advocating for my daughter’s needs has been a challenging and exhausting journey. Despite my efforts to seek additional support and resources, the lack of available tutors in our area and the resistance from school authorities to address her learning difficulties have further exacerbated the situation. The impact of these struggles goes beyond just academic performance; it has strained our family relationships, heightened anxiety levels, and created a sense of hopelessness for the future. It is imperative that we address these challenges early on through regular screenings and assessments to prevent other families from experiencing similar hardships and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and emotionally. Let’s come together to advocate for change and support our children’s educational success.

    With respect and sincerity,

    Candia Sissons

Children are even as a branch that is fresh and green; they will grow up in whatever way ye train them. Take the utmost care to give them high ideals and goals, so that once they come of age, they will cast their beams like brilliant candles on the world, and will not be defiled by lusts and passions in the way of animals, heedless and unaware, but instead will set their hearts on achieving everlasting honour and acquiring all the excellences of humankind.

This also makes the teachers accountable which I suspect the ATA is against it.

My son was refused an assessment in Grade 3 at school. We took him to a private educational phycologist. It cost us 1500 through the Learning Disability Association. He was diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and add. With working memory issues and processing speed. With this assessment we new how to help him. We new what to target and why he was not learning the regular way. It was hard for us to pay this and not many people can afford assessments. It has to be more accessible to kids who show struggles. Early intervention is crucial. There will be less drop outs, addictions, etc.
