It’s common sense to have mandatory screenings in literacy and numeracy twice a year. As parents we need to know the true Facts of whether our children are learning reading, writing and arithmetic. Anyone who doesn’t think this is necessary, has an agenda that they’re trying to sell parents and students in Alberta.

Time to expose the ATA for what it really is. Children should be educated, not indoctrinated.

I graduated in this system. I can count on one hand, out of 12 years of education, the number of teachers who had a positive impact on my life. Calgary School Board was the worst as a child. Looks like the Education Mafia (ATA) are trying to corrupt all of the Province’s schools, too bad. When I graduated in ‘78, my High School decided the parents weren’t allowed at our Grad Banquet (because evidently our parents had nothing to do with us graduating). It was just students and teachers. I boycotted the banquet, because my Mother was the one who stayed up late at night with me convincing me I the need to hang in there to graduate (I hated school). None of the teachers were there in the middle of the night. My Mother paid for my books, my gym equipment, my extracurricular activities; none of the teachers did. My Mother, no one else, deserved to sit at that banquet. So we went out for our own banquet.

    RIP Mama.

For the ATA, it never is really ‘about the children’, it is ALWAYS about the cash

I think it’s completely ridiculous that the teachers union believes they have any sort of authority over our children. If unions have shown us anything in history, it’s that they only care about lining their own pockets and they don’t care who they harm in the process. They don’t care about the children, they only care about what these tests might reveal with regards to their ability to teach. The biggest problem is that parents aren’t wanting to invest in their own children’s education and would rather have someone else do it for them. We as parents need to stand up for our rights and push back on these authoritarian organizations so they realize that we are the ones paying them to do their job.
